We recently presented a cheque of £700 to St Luke’s and Marie Curie Cancer Care. 

The amount was raised from two of our major charity events last year: Easter Egg Hunt and Christmas Party.

Wayne Marshall from St Luke’s and Sue Adams from Marie Curie kindly joined us for the joint presentation.

Practice Manager, Tracey Whittingham: “Both of these causes are extremely close to us here at the clinic. It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to support them in any way possible and we look forward to continuing that support in the future.”

We have further strengthened our expertise by recruiting new Associate Tom Trewhella.

Tom Trewhella has been a Chiropractor for 3 years, deciding to become one after visiting a Chiropractor himself; “I’ve always been quite sporty, over the years I’ve swam competitively and competed in surf lifesaving competitions. Back problems began to hinder all of that and very quickly I became inactive due to the pain. After seeing a Chiropractor I went from struggling to move to playing rugby again in the space of a few weeks. It was that incredible experience that inspired me to want to help other people in the same way.”

Tom grew up in Cornwall close to Hayle, studied at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic and worked at Lifestyle Chiropractic in Truro where he gained valuable experience before adding his skills to the team here at the clinic.

Tom said; “Chiropractors provide care for patients of all ages, who present with a range of acute and chronic conditions. As well as advice about self-help, exercise, diet and lifestyle, chiropractors often provide support for pain management, sports injuries and active rehabilitation.”

He added; “When describing chiropractic to people I liken the human body to a car. When a car breaks down we take it to the garage to get it fixed, when our spine isn’t moving right we visit a chiropractor to get it freed up. Much in the same way a car needs servicing from time to time to keep it functioning well so too does the spine.”

Dr. Wayne Whittingham said: “We are absolutely delighted to have Tom working with us here at the clinic. He is going to be a great addition to our team and I know that he will be of particular use to patients who suffer with sports related injuries and complaints having been through that experience himself.”

In one of two chapters written by Dr. Wayne he looks in detail into how headaches have their origin in the cervical spine (neck), the neck is one of the most common cause of headaches. He explains: “Headache sufferers have to be aware that if a structural problem exists, no amount of drugs or surgical intervention will resolve it.  Opting for chiropractic care to address headaches is becoming increasingly common; in fact around 10% of all people who see a chiropractor do so for headaches.”

Turning to chiropractic care for headaches is something that Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic patient Michael Hainsworth has seen change his life for the better.  Michael suffered with constant headaches for a decade and the situation got worse last year they developed into regular migraines. He commented: “The situation was literally crippling for me. It affected my everyday life in a bad way.  I was in regular contact with my GP who referred me for tests but the advice always resulted in me taking more painkillers – masking the problem rather than curing it.” He continued: “I turned to alternatives in Reiki and Crystal Therapy and although they provided temporary relief, they didn’t provide a long-term solution to my problem.  It was only then that I found out about chiropractic’s role in treating headaches through a friend who saw the information at Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic.”

After a free screening and consultation, Michael had chiropractic adjustments twice a week for a month from Dr. Wayne and after the third week a real breakthrough happened.  “The migraines just stopped!” said an understandably relieved Michael. “What’s more, I no longer have a constant headache.  Now I just get the occasional headache which means I can get on with my life and have more energy for work.  My whole wellbeing has changed for the better.  I cannot thank Dr. Wayne and his team enough for the help they have given me.  They go above and beyond what I expected.”

Looking ahead to its 40th birthday celebrations, Dr. Wayne and wife Tracey, who is the clinic’s practice manager, hope to bring together as many patients, friends and family as possible – consistent with the family traditions of the clinic which was set up by Dr. Wayne’s father Ken and mother Elisabeth.”

Those events will include a champagne reception, in addition to Plymouth Chiropractic’s regular children’s Easter Egg Hunt and Christmas Party, which last year raised nearly £700 for St Luke’s Hospice and the Marie Curie Cancer Care.

One of the youngest ever players to play for the greens; Matt insists upon regular chiropractic treatment to complement his training regime and keep him fit for selection – an approach that we highlighted recently is adopted by Italian football giants AC Milan.

Dr Wayne Whittingham said: “Matt is a great lad who takes his football career very seriously.  That dedication and seen him score his first senior goal for the club and attract the attention of scouts across the country.  On behalf of everybody here at Plymouth Chiropractic, we wish him every success in the future and look forward to seeing him for his usual scheduled checks ups.”
