About Us

Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic is a well established family practice that has been operating in the Plymouth area for the last 38 years. We offer on site parking, and are within a 10 minute drive (20minute walk) of the city centre.  Our clinic is equipped with digital X-ray equipment, allowing quick and convenient digital X-rays and radiological reports. We also utilise computerised diagnostic equipment to compliment our thorough physical examinations.

All our Chiropractors are University trained, and are registered with the General Chiropractic Council and the United Chiropractic Association. The clinic has official research status, allowing our Chiropractors to produce current research for the profession (See our blog for recent studies).

Meet the team below:

  • Dr Wayne Whittingham

    (PhD Chiropractor)

Wayne comes from a family of chiropractors. His father Dr Ken Whittingham (Chiropractor), who set up Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic in 1972, was renowned for saying ‘kids, you can be anything you want to in life, as long as you are a chiropractor!’ They all became chiropractors! Wayne’s sister, Yvonne, practices in Sweden and his brother, Bruce, in Surfer’s Paradise. Wayne lost his father to an accident in 1990 and his mum, Elisabeth Whittingham, continued to run the practice developing and growing it to bring chiropractic to the city of Plymouth. Wayne graduated in RMIT in Australia, where he continued to study for his PhD, the first in the world on Chiropractic for the treatment of Headaches. Wayne came back to the UK in 1997 and has enjoyed many years now running the clinic, having the privilege of seeing hundreds of people experience the amazing benefits of chiropractic.

It is an exciting time for Wayne personally and for the whole team here as the practice is now beginning to get recognition for the work we do, not only by achieving the PPQM award again in January from the College of Chiropractors, which awards outstanding patient care, but also the clinic is now a research clinic, one of a handful in the UK. The clinic has also achieved the CMQM award, a clinical award given by the College of Chiropractors. Wayne is involved in research with the peninsula medical school at Plymouth University on the benefits of Chiropractic and dizziness. Wayne was awarded Chiropractor of the year in 2012, a national award given by the United Chiropractic Association, which he dedicated to his mum who passed away at the beginning of 2012.

  • Dr Jonathan Cook

Jon always knew he would end up in some kind of healthcare profession, but he struggled to find inspiration in any of the mainstream occupations. However, he was fortunate enough to meet some chiropractic students – and inspiration struck!

Jon immediately admired the approach of chiropractic: that is, putting a patient in charge of their own health and allowing them to make decisions for themselves, rather than just telling them what to do. “The most motivating part of my job is watching a patient’s health flourish and getting them back into the hobbies, jobs and pursuits that they love. Many patients are surprised at just how much impact chiropractic care can have. They usually arrive experiencing some pain, expecting that to be the only element that’s addressed. It’s inspiring and exciting to see them regaining control of their health, lives and happiness by making the positive changes that chiropractic teaches them all about.”

Jon was born and raised in Plymouth and, after completing his chiropractic degree, he moved back to live in Millbrook. Jon loves the relaxing surrounds of the area and enjoys going for runs or walks along the river or by the beach. “I live by my own advice, getting adjusted regularly, eating well and exercising as often as possible. I’ve run the Plymouth half marathon twice and Tough Mudder earlier in the year.”

  • Dr Silas Keeling

I joined Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic in July 2016, to take over Dr Wesley Trowse’s patient base as he has now returned to Australia with his Fiancée Lauren. I currently live in Plymouth, but am from a place in the middle of nowhere on the Devon-side of the border, due north of Bude. As such, I have grown up with 2 hobbies available to me; surfing and rugby, which I still fit in as much as I possibly can, although I am becoming less brave when it comes to cold waters!

Professionally, I am passionate about helping people live life to their fill potential, helping them to be the best that they can be, and not being held back by physical ailments.

Day to day I see firsthand how improved spinal health affects all walks of life and how greatly it leads to improved overall health. Helping the old feel young, the young grow old healthily, the hard working work pain free, and the athletes among us achieve their goals, which is where my passion for Chiropractic care began.

  • Dr Thomas Swingewood

Tom started Chiropractic care from the age of 14 as a result of being beaten up on the rugby field; since then a deep respect for how important Chiropractic is for the health conscious individual has continued to grow.

Tom graduated from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic in 2010; since then Tom has worked in clinics in Torquay, Newton Abbot, Torquay rugby club, Totnes rowing club and since 2012 at Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic. Specialising in Applied Kinesiology, Tom brings the science of Chiropractic and muscle testing to help all ages. Sports and research is Tom’s main focus having worked with many athletes of all standards including former world champions as well as several hopeful candidates for Rio 2016. Tom will be partaking in a PhD at Plymouth University looking into the effects of chiropractic and nerve flow down the arm; all this will be taking place with Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic, so watch this space.

  • Dr Hannah Chambers

I graduated from Welsh institute of Chiropractic in 2011 with a Masters in Chiropractic, and relocated to Plymouth in July 2016 after practising for the previous 5 years the West Midlands.

The move South was generated by my pursuit of an outdoors lifestyle and to work as part of an exceptional practice. My focus is on family orientated care from Baby to Grandpa and optimising quality of life for all. I believe Chiropractic is a safe, reliable way of helping people achieve the best in physical health and overall wellbeing.

While my style of Chiropractic is very similar to the rest of the Plymouth team, O have also completed additional training in the management of the pregnant pelvis and paediatrics, and therefore have a great love in helping pregnant ladies have a comfortable pregnancy and endeavouring to give new babies the best start in life. I also specialise in Kinesiology taping, which is beneficial in the recovery of sport injuries, stabilising the pregnant pelvis, and managing arthritic complaints.

I have been in love with this profession since I was a child, after finding Chiropractic helped me to overcome some of my own health issues, where conventional medicine had failed. I am truly inspired by this amazing profession and the results I have seen it achieve for my patients. For any of you who have hit a stasis point in your health, I highly recommend being assessed by a Doctor of Chiropractic.

  • Tracey Whittingham

    Practice Manager

Tracey graduated from the University of Plymouth after completing her nurse training, and went on to specialise in intensive care at Derriford Hospital. She loved the work that she did, helping people at the most desperate time in their lives. Tracey met Wayne in April 2005 and after a whirl wind romance they married in February 2007. Tracey was so inspired by the amazing benefits that she learnt and experienced first-hand about Chiropractic that she left nursing 4 years ago to take up managing Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic. The huge benefits that chiropractic care offers has been both inspiring and exciting to Tracey and she feels that she has found a profession that genuinely cares about every one that walks through the door. Tracey added, ‘I have 2 beautiful daughters and 3 amazing step children and everyday find myself thinking how lucky I am’.

The future for PCC is one of anticipation and excitement as we explore the field of research, so that we can document what we already know are the true benefits of chiropractic care. We have an amazing team here and a vast amount of patients from all walks of life, and we are looking forward to continuing this journey together.

During his time here Adam has completed an NVQ in Management, and is currently clinic supervisor. Although he hasn’t made it to Chiropractic College, Adam is passionate about everything Chiropractic and fully embraces the Chiropractic lifestyle.

Having grown up in a Chiropractic family Bonnie has always been able to see the benefits of Chiropractic care, and how much it can help people. Bonnie has been working with us since 2010, and as she is Dr. Wayne Whittingham’s daughter it is in her genetics to become a Chiropractor as well! To be honest, I think it’s a good excuse to study in Australia!

  • Olivia Lloyd

    Chiropractic Assistant

Olivia has been a patient since she was 9 years old, and loved coming in so much that we were her first choice for work experience in 2007. When a position at the clinic became available Olivia was the first to apply and after she made such an impression on the team we just had to take her on. Olivia recently graduated from Plymouth University with a degree in History and now works full time at the clinic.

  • Vicki Jones

    Chiropractic Assistant

For the past 15 years I have been running my own business and raising my 3 gorgeous boys. We have all experienced Chiropractic care over the years, and have benefitted a lot in different ways. I have always been impressed by Chiropractic care, and the amazing team at Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic, and when a position became available to join, the timing was perfect, as I have recently married, and was looking for the next chapter in my life, so I eagerly applied, and was thrilled to be successful. I look forward to welcoming patients from all walks of life in to the practice, and it pleases me daily to see how many people are helped by Chiropractic care, and for conditions that people didn’t know Chiropractic care may help.

    Vicki Jones - Chiropractic Assistant
  • Laura Hilton

    Chiropractic Assistant & Massage Therapist

As a qualified Beauty and Massage Therapist, I joined Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic in January 2015 to work as a massage therapist alongside Dr Jonathan Cook (Chiropractor). When Jon’s patients arrive for an appointment they will have some soft-tissue work with me before they have their Chiropractic adjustments with Jon. This works really well for both the patient and the general flow of a busy successful practice.

I have 3 daughters, who, like me regularly have Chiropractic adjustments, in an attempt to stay on top of common postural issues associated with growth, and sometimes ‘normal’ every-day health complaints can be addressed before they develop.

My priority at Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic is to support Jon, the team, and the many patients that seek our help daily. On occasion I also work with my Mum, Helen Soby, offering massages to couples as a special treat – often around Valentine’s Day or during the Christmas period too!
